Books|Writing|Random Occasional Meanderings
I love writing, and this is one way to actually get me to write. Book reviews|Quotes|Author profiles|and other random posts on movies, music, or whatever else that inspires me to create. My 'diary' of sorts on my journey to becoming a published author.

Me: I'm Britta Kirk. Writing my first novel| about to hop a flight across the pond to a small town called Bangor in Wales, to dissect the anatomy of the novel (Creative Writing MA program). In other words, I'm on a journey to discover why Hogwarts is more tangible than a nine to five, or how words piled atop each other becomes true love, or vampires that sparkle in the sunlight. I love that through novels, you can create an entire world, and all the people in it; You feel as if you're a citizen of that world, and those characters are your best friends. I think I want to make these origami stars.
One of my good friends used to do it, and they were lovely!
It’ll add a splash of color in my life.
And I’ll put them in a jar, just to remember what I’m striving for!

AIRPLANES - B.O.B FT. HAYLEY WILLIAMS OF PARAMORE

Paramore/Hayley Williams will forever be an inspiration to write! All of their repertoire has inspired the series I’m writing now!

My Dearest Fanny…

Ask yourself my love whether you are not very cruel to have so entrammelled me, so destroyed my freedom. Will you confess this in the Letter you must write immediately and do all you can to console me in it—make it rich as a draught of poppies to intoxicate me—write the softest words and kiss them that I may at least touch my lips where yours have been. For myself I know not how to express my devotion to so fair a form: I want a brighter word than bright, a fairer word than fair. I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days—three such days with you I could fill with much more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.

I’ve been waiting to see the movie, Bright Star, for ages. I actually was never a big fan of Keats, until I purchased the book of letters he wrote to his love, Fanny. His words debunk the whole notion that guys have no affinity to express their love to women through words. As I read, I wished I had a pen to underline every precious gem of vulnerability that I could soak out of it. What I love most about the love expressed in the past, is it seems to have taken more work, more time, more effort, and therefore the love seemed more idyllic. I know its possible to achieve now, its just figuring out whether we will leave behind our fast paces to actually know someone.

Jane Campion, director of Bright Star, put together this wonderful production scrapbook of the movie. Beautiful photographs, letters, sketches, and lovely little bits and bobbins to pilfer through. It’s too lovely to miss.

“What’s the least offensive way to call someone a dismally vain, self absorbed shell of a human being?”: A Review of My Life As Liz

Why am I intrigued with this show?

                        Photobucket

The night My Life as Liz premiered on MTV, I had no idea what to expect from it. I thought, ‘Oh, MTV’s good at showcasing teen’s lives like an episode of MADE, why not give it a try.” We meet a girl named, Liz Lee. A red haired, Juno-esque angst tank living in a town of blond androids, and those who aspire to the same shallow existence. It’s her senior year, and she wants to leave High School with a bang, change some lives, some minds, and experience life outside of four walls.

Review: Sure, its a type of cliche to explore teen angst, as every generation has its club of angst filled, post pubescent human beings. But this show rocks on so many levels. It’s witty, fun, hilarious, and each character, even the blond robots, have distinct personalities. I always gravitate towards people who flow against status quo, and have unique hair, so Liz fits the mold. She’s not so angst filled you want to shake her, and you want to see her move on to defeat her arch nemeses, get the perfect shy, scruffy guy, and change Taylor Terry’s (Questioning android) life.

Favorite moment: Episode 2: Liz gets a Valentine’s Day surprise of 12 carnations from first name- Secret/last name- Admirer. When she gets home, she ties each carnation to her ceiling fan with ropes that look like nooses, and watches as they spin. Most random/ hilarious moment I’ve seen in a while.

Character Who Might Grow On Me: Taylor Terry. Although she proved to be a real turncoat when she completely ignored Liz on the first day back at school (after having confided in her how much she wants to change from an android to a living breathing mammal), she sticks up for Liz to her fellow blond trouble makers, and rushes to apologize to her after an unfortunate happening. She may never change. Or she might, and become her own person by the end of the season!

The Lady of The Manners: Gothic Charm School- Book Review

I’ve recently started reading Gothic Charm School, by Jillian Venters. I’ve always been a bit intrigued by people in interesting subcultures; punks and rockers have always struck me as some of the most chill and individual people. There’s something about people willing to completely stand out, even if it seems really outlandish. There has always been this certain something about Goth’s.

Wow, Lovely: Skins Series Review (Mostly Generation One)

Why am I intrigued with this show?

                     Photobucket

I’m later than most who’ve been watching since series one. Plus, in America it doesn’t seem to be quite as widespread. But being a lover of British everything, when I heard of SKINS, I thought, ah..why not?

Slight Review: Seriously, we thought Degrassi went there. But these kids make them look like Sesame Street. I remember watching the first episode with my mouth wide open the entire time. Profanity, sex and drugs for days. I was both disturbed, and interested to see where it went. The next parts in the series go harder and harder with the drug abuse and lurid sex. However, as a writer, I can respect the creation of interesting characters. If you divert your attention from all of the debauchery, you see each character seems lost in their own ways. None of the characters are carbon copies of others we’ve seen before, which is awesome! I love that there seems to be an aura of surreality behind each story: Portraying reality while equally portraying something far beautiful than that. Painting human frailty in a teen drama, seems especially hard, but they manage to accomplish it! For the most part, the show isn’t a carbon copy. RATED: MA. Definitely not the most kid friendly show. However, not one for censoring, this stuff does go on in high schools during real time. This show reminds me we have loads to pray about, and people to pray for.

Favorite Character

Cassie. She reminds me of a character of mine. She’s enigmatic. At first {in the first episode} I thought: Wow, I didn’t know they had valley girls in England. However, her story has many more layers than that. She’s been neglected so much that she drowns it all out, as a child would while colouring outside of the lines. Cassie’s both sunshine and rainbows, while being completely aware of trauma.

I am happy that

This kid grew up from the film, About A Boy. Very handsome! Oh Nicholas Hoult

A Word on Generation 2: Effy, enough said. She’s one of the greatest characters, period. She draws you in with her mysterious ways, and beauty, but like oleander, she’s insane. I also love Emily and Katie Fitch, they have an intriguing story, and look! I love Freddie, JJ, and Cook (after taking a second look at him).

Fashion: FABULOUS. What’s lovely is that its so basic, you could find everything at thrift shops. But you need to put your own twist on it, and they encourage it!

I love that: the jingle of the show twinkles as if there’s nothing wrong in the world. off for now, kiddies.
